How to access EBSCO eBooks and Audiobooks

General Information

While we strive to provide information for any eventuality, using different operating systems and devices may alter your experience. If you have questions or problems, please call 717-245-3660 (M-F 0730-1630 EST), email AskRoot@usawc.libanswers.com or submit your query via Ask Us a Question.

Create an EBSCO Account

Whether you want to read an eBook or listen to an Audiobook, it is best to create an EBSCO account before you begin:

  1. From the library website go to Research Resources and click on EBSCO. You may be prompted to enter the username and password from your USAWC password card. This verifies you as a USAWC user.
  2. From the top navigation bar, click on Sign In.
  3. Click on the Create a New Account link.
  4. Complete the form for a Personal Account, and Save Changes.
  5. You are now logged into EBSCO as a personal user. Make note of your user name and password for future use.

Note from EBSCO: "When you set up a personal account, we ask for your name, e-mail address, a unique log in name, password, and password validation. EBSCO uses this information only to identify you at log in so your searches are not viewed or used by anyone else. We do not share this information. Click on our privacy policy for more information."

Troubleshooting EBSCO eBooks & Audiobooks

A new PDF opens every time I turn the page of an eBook in EBSCOhost!

  1. Launch Adobe Reader.
  2. Click the Edit menu in the toolbar at the top of Adobe Reader.
  3. Select Preferences from the drop-down list of options.
  4. Select Internet in the left-column of the resulting menu.
  5. Mark the check box Display PDF in browser.
  6. Click OK.
  7. eBooks now display in the eBook viewer without displaying individual PDFs for each page.
  8. Note: If you have both Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Reader, you will need to make this change in both applications.

I can see the book in my Digital Editions, but I cannot open it!

  • The checkout period may have expired. Each item has a 21-day loan period, but may be renewed or checked out again.
