EBSCO eBooks and Audiobooks   Tags: audiobooks, ebooks, ebsco, electronic books

Note: Amazon Kindle will NOT WORK with EBSCO eBooks. Kindle Fire will work with EBSCO eBooks. For more information on Kindle Fire, please go here. 

-On your personal computer or device, create your EBSCO account first.

-Download any required software for your specific device.

-If you want to take notes on an eBook, either use Online view from EBSCO or use a third party product. It is not recommended to take notes within Adobe Digital Editions, as the notes are difficult to read and process after the book is checked in.

-You may have to disable a firewall to allow access to Adobe Digital Editions.

-Items check out for 21 days. After 21 days, they automatically check back in. If you cannot open the book, make sure that it was not checked back in.

Read over 8,500 books available for online viewing or download to a computer or mobile device.

Choose from a selection of 3,500 audiobooks available to download to your computer or mobile device.

Whether you want to read an eBook or listen to an Audiobook, it is best to create an EBSCO account first. 

1. Go to the USAWC Library website
2. Click on EBSCO eBooks or Audiobooks [in the box titled - E-Book / Audiobook Collections]. If you are at home, you will be prompted to enter the username and password from your Borrower Card.
3. Click on the Sign In link in the top bar of the webpage.
4. From the Sign In Screen, click the Create a New Account link.
5. The Create a New Account Screen appears with Personal Account entered in the Account Type field. Fill in the fields on the Create a New Account Screen. When you have completed the fields, click Submit.
6. If all the information was accepted, a message appears that provides your user name and password. Click OK. You will be automatically logged in as a personal user. You should note the user name and password you created so you can log in at a future session.

From EBSCO - When you set up a personal account, we ask for your name, e-mail address, a unique log in name, password, and password validation. EBSCO uses this information only to identify you at log in so your searches are not viewed or used by anyone else. We do not share this information. Click on our privacy policy for more information.

The default search screen for eBooks on EBSCOhost is basic search. The eBook Collection landing page displayed below is available by clicking the eBooks link in the top toolbar.

There are several ways to search for eBooks on EBSCOhost:

• Perform a keyword search of the eBooks database using the Find field.

• Browse by Category by selecting a category from the column on the left.

• View the Latest Added eBooks using the left and right arrows or click View All to view a result list of all Latest Added eBooks.

• View Featured eBooks using the left and right arrows or click View All to view a result list of all Featured eBooks.

To search for eBooks:

1. Enter your search terms in the Find field and click the Search button

   

2. A Result List of eBooks related to your search terms is displayed.

   

3. Click the eBook Full Text link to read the book in the eBook Viewer tool.

4. Click the Download (Offline) link to check out the book and read it on your computer using Adobe Digital Editions. (See Downloading an eBook below)

   Note: Libraries that have eBook download capabilities enabled, will see a Download (Offline) link.

5. Click the Table of Contents link to view the chapters of an eBook. You can go directly to a chapter in the eBook Viewer tool by clicking on a hyperlinked chapter.

   Note: Sections in the Table of Contents with a plus sign (+) can be expanded further by clicking the plus sign.

The default search screen for Audiobooks on EBSCOhost is basic search. The Audiobook Collection landing page displayed below is available by clicking the Audiobooks link in the top toolbar.

There are several ways to search for Audiobooks on EBSCOhost:

• Perform a keyword search of the Audiobooks database using the Find field.

• Browse by Category by selecting a category from the column on the left.

• View the Latest Added audiobooks using the left and right arrows or click View All to view a result list of all Latest Added Audiobooks.

• View Featured Audiobooks using the left and right arrows to change categories or click View All to view a result list of all Featured Audiobooks.

To search for Audiobooks on EBSCOhost:

1. Enter your search terms in the Find field and click Search.

   

2. A result list of Audiobooks is displayed.

   

3. Click the Sample button to hear a preview of the Audiobook.

4. Click the Download link to download the Audiobook and transfer it to a portable device.
