If you are looking for an article or reading for a course, and it is from a library database, you should get the permalink from the database.

Several pages, including CSIS, DTIC, GPO, NDU, and others, do not require copyright permissions to use their materials. See a longer list at the link above.

Use the fair use checklist if your reading is not from a library database, it is from a site that requires copyright permission, or from a print/hard copy material. Your department chair will review your request.

Columbia University Libraries established Copyright Advisory Services as the Copyright Advisory Office in 2008 s a means of addressing burgeoning issues surrounding the use of scholarly materials by faculty and students in the course of research, teaching and communicating scholarship.
