The Population Division of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations has been issuing, since 1988, every two years revised estimates and projections of the urban and rural populations of all countries in the world and of their major urban agglomerations. The World Urbanization Prospects are used widely throughout the United Nations and by many international organizations, research centers, academic researchers and the media.

For over 60 years, the BP Statistical Review of World Energy has provided objective and globally consistent data on world energy markets. UNSD collects energy statistics from more than 190 countries and updates and maintains the Energy Statistics Database, which contains energy statistics for the period 1950-2010. The statistics cover production, trade, transformation and final consumption (end-use) for a range of primary and secondary energy products derived from conventional and non-conventional or renewable energy sources.

The Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN) is a center within the Earth Institute at Columbia University. CIESIN works at the intersection of the social, natural, and information sciences, and specializes in on-line data and information management, spatial data integration and training, and interdisciplinary research related to human interactions in the environment.

The IMF’s Research Department has developed the DIGNAD (Debt-Investment-Growth and Natural Disasters) toolkit. The toolkit builds on the extension of the Debt, Investment and Growth model of Buffie et al. (2012) to natural disasters following Marto, Papageorgiou and Klyuev (2018) , allowing the user to run the model from an Excel interface. The model captures the challenges of closing infrastructure gaps in developing countries that frequently face natural disasters.

The indicators in this category examine carbon dioxide atmospheric concentrations, as well as trends in global warming, such as rising sea levels, rising temperatures and frequency of natural disasters which are key indicators to monitor climate change and its impacts on populations.

This new web format for Environment at a Glance Indicators provides real-time interactive on-line access to the latest comparable OECD-country data on the environment from the OECD Core Set of Environmental Indicators – a tool to evaluate environmental performance in countries and to track the course towards sustainable development. The web version allows users to play with the data and graphics, download and share them, and consult and download thematic web-books. These indicators provide key messages on major environmental trends in areas such as climate change, biodiversity, water resources, air quality, circular economy and ocean resources. They are accompanied by a short Environment at a Glance report that presents a digest of the key messages stemming from the indicators.

AQUASTAT is FAO's global water information system, developed by the Land and Water Division. The main mandate of the programme is to collect, analyze and disseminate information on water resources, water uses, and agricultural water management, with an emphasis on countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean. This allows interested users to find comprehensive and regularly updated information at global, regional, and national levels.
